Takutai Moana – Marine and Coastal Area Act Hearing,

E te whānau,

In 2017, under the Takutai Moana (Marine and Coastal Area) Act 2011, whānau, hapū and iwi were able to apply to the High Court for orders recognising customary marine title and protected customary rights.  This hearing covers the rohe from the Rangitīkei River in the north and Whareroa in the south.  This hearing currently includes 11 whānau, hapū and iwi applicants.

The district hearing will be held at the High Court at 2 Molesworth Street, Whanganui-a-Tara.  It will start on Monday 6th May and end on Thursday 27 June 2024.

Evidence will be heard from 10am to 5pm each day.

MUAŪPOKO EVIDENCE:

Muaūpoko evidence will be heard from Monday 13th May to Friday 17th May.

We are looking to have as much support as possible in the court every day.

WHĀNAU I HOROWHENUA:

BY BUS:

7 am – Meet at Muaūpoko Tribal Authority whare.

The bus will leave the MTA whare at 7:20am each morning (13th to 17th May) and leave from Whanganui-a-Tara at approximately 4pm, arriving back in Taitoko,Levin at approximately 5:15pm each day.

Pickups and Drop offs to home are available every day, please contact us to arrange.

If you are bringing your own car to the whare, please park it in the service lane behind the MTA whare.

BY TRAIN:

The Capital Connection runs between Te Papa-i-Oea and Whanganui-a-Tara leaving at 615am and arriving at 820am.  It returns from Whanganui-a-Tara at 515pm arriving to Te Papa-i-Oea at 720pm, stopping at Shannon, Taitoko/Levin, Ōtaki, Waikanae and Paraparaumu.

 The Kāpiti Line runs between Waikanae and Whanganui-a-Tara with trains running approximately every 20 minutes starting from 825am.  More details can be found on this link Metlink – Timetable KPL Kapiti Line (Wellington – Waikanae)

OWN TRANSPORT:

If you wish to use your own transport to travel to Whanganui-a-Tara, we can reimburse mileage and parking costs (with receipt).

 A voucher for kai and drinks will be provided for those attending each day.

If you are available and would like to come and support this kaupapa for whatever time you can, (whether that is every day, a day or a lunch hour), your time and support will be very valuable.

Parking: we can reimburse for parking costs (with receipt) if you need to drive and park to attend court.
